A Brief History

The Betacam format was developed by Sony and launched in 1982. It was a half inch format for television broadcast and video production houses. Not to be confused with Betmax which used the same size videotapes but not compatable because it was consumer only. Both Betcam players and Betacam recorder decks were introduced.

In 1986 Sony developed and introduced a high band version called Betacam Sp. With its superior picture quality this was the choice od broadcast and production houses for high end work flows.New players and recorders were developed for the Betacam SP broadcast range.

Now is the time to digitally backup and future proof all those recordings on Betacam and Betacam SP to a safe digital media on SD or HD. Output to traditional DVD or Blu-Ray or digital file output SD USB stick or Hard Drive for computer and mobile devices.
