Worried your special memories recorded on the Funai CVC format won’t last much longer? Why not let us digitally back them up before they’re lost forever?
VMT can transfer then restore and re-master these tiny video gems onto either DVD, digital SD USB or another digital file format.
A Brief History
Introduced in the 1980s for portable use, the Funai Technicolor CVC (or compact cassette) was first developed by Funai in Japan.
Both Funai and Technicolor came together to produce the 212 machine in 1980. Although Technicolor hoped it would compete with the 8mm film, unfortunately it was plagued by technical issues. For instance, the low quality of the tape was prone to dropouts during video playback.
These dinky cassettes were a little bit larger than audio cassettes, and the quality was around the same as VHS.
FAQ about the Funai Technicolor CVC
Can my tapes be mastered to Blu-Ray?
Sadly not- if you upscale any SD picture to HD it will not be true HD. This is because the original was recorded in SD.
Our Use of Timebase Correction

However, broadcast hardware can fill in the missing picture information when it’s upscaled to HD.
All our videotape professional captures go through ‘time base correctors’.
For those not in the industry this term is probably unfamiliar; all it means is that we will reduce or eliminate errors caused by instability in analogue recordings. In other words, we will make your picture as stable as possible, therefore showing those old memories in a new light.
If you want detailed technical information on this process all information is available on the internet.
Bespoke Editing and Titling
Vintage Media Transfers can take your captured footage and edit it together, only removing the starts and stops for a truly professional finish.
Better yet, we can give it that Hollywood look with added titles and tasteful transition music, which is copyright free.
We offer a choice of traditional DVDs or a digital file output, supplied on either a hard drive, USB or SD card for future proofing.
Enjoy our Bespoke Menu Artwork
All Funai Technicolor CVC tapes will have bespoke artwork and menus for your recordings. These are 100% original and of the finest quality.
